Anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War

Today, April 13, is the 152 anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War. Major Robert Anderson and a handful of men were stationed at Fort Sumpter waiting for supplies to come to them from Washington, D. C. South Carolina had seceded and was determined to claim the fort in their harbor, so the challenge was on.

The Confederate's first bombardment began on April 12, and Anderson held out for 33 hours before surrendering the fort--and the long held, pent up tensions gave way and plunged the states into all out Civil War.

I felt in my book the story of "The Girl in the Butternut Dress," became much more dramatic after the war began and everything was influenced by the war.
